The Philippines Finds its Contender in the Yamaha National Technician Grand Prix

The Yamaha Technician Grand Prix (NTGP) is a Global competition that is held in different countries around the world. Its purpose is to raise the skill and knowledge of technicians to better serve customers.

It started with 180 specialists in the Regional Technician Grand Prix and only the top 10 made it to the final round

They are:

  1. Leo Dumalag from CDO 2 Cycles – CDO
  2. Carlo Jake Gorre from DES Marketing – Danao
  3. Conrado Bucar from DES Marketing Mandaue
  4. Mark Joseph R. Mallari from DES Marketing San Miguel
  5. Keith Smart Atis from Motor Ace Dasmarinas
  6. Avan Rojunne Agapito from Motorcentral Bacoor
  7. Allan Rey Silverio from Motorcentral Cabuyao
  8. Laorence Paul Romero from Motortrade Camarin
  9. Arpeee Obina from Superbikes Center Rosario
  10. Pepito N Eugenio Jr. from UEMI Alaminos

They were flown to Davao City for the culmination of the competition. Their first challenge was the Customer Handling test held in the Yamaha Davao Office. Each technician must showcase his ability in properly explaining to the customer the problem of their motorcycle, answering their queries in full detail, and being courteous as possible during their stay in the simulated situation. They had 15 minutes to complete each task that started when receiving the motorcycle of the customer. A panel of judges watched every move meticulously throughout each round.

After, they headed to SM City Davao for the Practical Test. Surrounded by a crowd in the time pressured exam that was limited to 90 minutes. This required commitment to Yamaha standard of procedures, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair.

The winners were based off the combined score of both exams. Being the fastest did not assure their placements because quality is considered above all but failing to finish the task within the allotted time received a penalty.

And the winners were:

Champion – Allan Rey C. Silverio from Motorcentral Cabuyao
2nd Place – Leo Dumalag from CDO 2 Cycles – CDO
3rd Place – Pepito N Eugenio Jr. from UEMI Alaminos
CS Awardee – Arpeee Obina from Superbikes Center Rosario

The National Champion will be the Philippine representative in the Yamaha World Technician Grand Prix in Japan. The NTGP has displayed the standard of Yamaha and cultivates that talent in the Philippines. These won’t just be competitions, it is the evolution of excellence. – YMPH

Yamaha The Millenial Rev Takes Over the Inside Racing Bike Fest at the World Trade Center

DAY 1 – It’s that time of the year again for the biggest bike fest in the country and Yamaha was ready to give an unforgettable show. The annual exhibition draws all kinds of motorcycle lovers and that’s what Yamaha is all about; offering a product for every rider. This year’s edition of the Yamaha Motor Show prided itself in bringing machines to life with innovative technology and the passionate human touch. A display of how you can own the future with Yamaha.

Wrapped in a solid white fabric, the Yamaha booth was shielded in the early going. With a spectacle shrouded in mystery, it quickly drew a crowd of onlookers eagerly waiting to see what was behind the curtain.

Robi Domingo brought his energy and humor to start the program which was as modernized as it could get. Yamaha officials were called onto a platform where a digital hand print scanner was embedded on the booth cover. As they reached out their hand, the exhibit was quickly and seamlessly revealed. How advanced was this structure? Robi had A.V.A. which stood for Autonomous Visual Avatar, an artificial program that co-hosted alongside him. Together, they symbolized the importance of man and machine in harmony.

The showcase had it all. Performance and sophistication with the MAX series highlighted by the newest model, the XMAX. The power of emotion was unleashed with the Big Bikes that ignited passion in every turn. It was also a showcase of Yamaha’s newest campaign ‘We are Mio’, a culture created to represent the youthful vibe of being unstoppable with the MIO. The number 1 automatic motorcycles are partnered with the Miollennials, the all new Mio Sporty with BoybandPh, Mio i 125 with Nadine Lustre, Mio Soul I 125 with Drew Arellano, and Mio Aerox 155 with Matteo Guidicelli.

And owning the future did not stop with a culture that defied age norms. Yamaha debuted a technology that will alter the course of riding forever. History was made with the development of the MOTOROiD, Yamaha’s most futuristic concept motorcycle to date.

It was a feat of human and mechanical ingenuity that was demonstrated to everyone.

The image recognition AI uses machine learning algorithms for facial and gesture recognition functions. It recognizes its owner’s face and from there the movement of MOTOROiD is controlled through simple hand gestures. It can move forward, backward, turn in every direction, and stop without being physically handled. The Active Mass Center Control System (AMCES), is a technology that stabilizes 2-wheeled motorcycles using electronic active controls to optimize the vehicle’s posture and prevent it from falling.

It was an incredible start for Yamaha’s 2018 motor show, and it’s only been a day. The 2nd day will feature all this and more with a special Yamaha Club presentation and the Pure Performance awarding, a recognition of the record breaking Yamaha Sight in the latest fuel efficiency challenge. Day 3 will continue to be a spectacle, everyone in the Bike Fest will get to meet Miollennials Nadine Lustre and BoyBandPH.

Where should you be this weekend? The answer is crystal clear.

DAY 2 – Yamaha Motor Philippines continued its highly inspiring exhibition at the World Trade Center. After a strong start on Day 1, attendees now had a full day of the Millennial Rev to enjoy.

Displaying innovation that offers riders to own the future, everyone inside the exhibition had plenty to choose from. Sophistication and performance was on hand with the Max Series. The NMAX, TMAX, and the recently released XMAX. The big bikes provided the power physically and emotionally. It wasn’t hard to get your blood flowing with the MT09, Super Tenere, Tracer 900, XSR 900, SR400, YZF-R6, and YZF-R1. The movement has been causing quite the stir with the ‘WE ARE MIO’ campaign which pushes a young a trendy culture to be unstoppable. This world that Yamaha created pushed beyond the boundaries of generational norms by introducing the Miollennials. Those are Nadine Lustre for MIO i 125, BoybandPH for the all new MIO Sporty, Drew Arellano for the MIO soul I 125, and Matteo Guidicelli for MIO Aerox.

Of course, the highlight of the day was the Yamaha Club Tour De Rev. Marketing Customer Relations Head, Mr. Hansel Leyva, unveiled the plan for the nationwide tour which had legs in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao for advanced riders. To register you can just log on www.yamahaclub.com.ph to have the opportunity to join the tour. It is sponsored by Petron Corporation, Customer Care Products Inc., Racing Boy, Motoworld, and Universal Rubina Corporation.

Don’t miss out on the best of Yamaha on the final day of the Bike Fest. Also get the chance to meet Miollennials Nadine Lustre, and BoybandPH.

Head on over and remember; only Yamaha Revs your Heart.

Own the future with Yamaha.

DAY 3 – Yamaha Motor Philippines left their mark once again in the final day of the bike fest. After 3 massive days of motorcycle mania the brand proved that they are truly unstoppable.

Reflectorized vests required for bike riders | SunStar

When will this end? A reflectorized vest as a requirement for riding a motorcycle? This places the vest on par with the helmet as safety equipment. Reflectorized vests assist other road users to see riders primarily in the dark and really has no use in the daytime as DRLs (daytime running lights) are much more effective visual aid.

The article states that most accidents were caused by other vehicles not seeing the motorcycle on the road. Vest or not this will continue unless we get proper training for both motorcycle riders and drivers on the road. Mutual respect and proper cognizance of each vehicles role on the road will do more to minimize accidents on the road instead of another band aid argument such as this.

Again our argument falls on the failure of our licensing process. The procurement of a driver’s license is a joke in the Philippines and it must really be reviewed and revised. Till then, no band aid solution will suffice to hide the ugly truth that we have unskilled and ill mannered people on the road riding both 2 and 4 wheel and worst, multi axle vehicles.

MOTORCYCLE drivers will soon be required to wear reflectorized vests when they are driving in Cebu City roads. Wearing of the reflectorized vest is aimed at curbing road accidents as it allows other motorists to see oncoming motorcylists at night even at a distance. The vest time will be between 6 p.m. and daybreak. Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak, chairman of the committee on public order and safety, said 40 percent of the vehicular accidents recorded in Cebu City in the last 15 months involved motorcyles.

MCP Review: The Kymco Super Z 150 Fi – An Orange Crush

Motorcycle Philippines was lucky enough to have been able to test the new Kymco Super Z 150 8 Series 150 FI.  Kymco is well known in the local market for producing outstanding scooters designed specifically for the daily commuter and serious tourer.

With the release of the Super Z 150 Fi Kymco has upgraded the previous 125 version with a much powerful and torquier 150cc FI engine.  The Super Z retains the European styling it is so distinctly known from the 125cc version with a few upgrades.  Our unit came in a beautiful shade of orange which had bystanders taking a second look.  Front fairing compartments, which also houses the cleverly placed fuel filling cap, helmet/luggage hook and a discretely placed waterproof USB port are added creature comforts that make the Super Z 150 Fi stand out.

Street behavior of the Super Z 150 is impressive.  You can feel the extra torque while weaving in and out of traffic and while accelerating from the frequent starts and stops of everyday riding.  The compartment, big enough to fit a good-sized helmet, is perfect for bringing your daily load for work or school.

Touring with the Super Z is a treat.  The power of the 150cc FI engine is evident on the long stretches as the Super Z easily passes the 100kph barrier without breaking a sweat.  The saddle is both long and wide and provides the rider as well as the pillion with a comfort on short or long rides.  Fuel economy ranges from 23-27 km/l but since our unit just passed the 2,000 km mark and we weren’t really riding slow, this is expected to go up with more kilometers on the clock and sensible riding.

The 14-inch tires provide the Super Z a stable ride in both high speed situations as well as low speed challenges.  It easily absorbs small bumps on the road much better than smaller diameter wheels.  A must for riding around the city.

The Kymco Super Z 150 Fi is a good choice for those looking for the power of a 150cc fuel injected engine married with the sporty elegant styling the Super Z has been known for.

The Kymco Super Z 150 FI is priced at Php83,900 and is now available in all your favorite Kymco dealers.  Available colors are Light Blue Matte, Flat Red, Shining Orange.

Yamaha Motor Philippines is currently competing in the Asia Road Race Championship (ARRC), a continental championship competition of the FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme). The Australian leg recently wrapped up with 17-year-old wonder boy McKinley Kyle Paz holding his own against the best riders in Asia.

His first time on the Bend Motorsports Park during practice session allowed Kyle to show his skills by recording the fastest time on the track (2:18.93). In the qualifiers he placed 4th on the grid, and finished 6th overall for his first race. The 2nd race was where he pulled out all the stops to with an outstanding 2nd place finish for the Yamaha Maju Motor Asia Team. The Yamaha Club conducted the first leg of Tour De Rev on May 18, 2018 an activity that united riders on the roads of the Philippines. This three-part activity begins with its Luzon edition. Riders from the region gathered in the Yamaha Flagship Shop, Yzone, which served as the starting point of the trip. The ride was a long and enjoyable 13-hour trip to Banaue that allowed everyone to feel the full capacity of Yamaha Motorcycles; and that was only Day 1 of this awesome adventure.

May 26, 2018 was a banner day for riders in Mindanao as Suzuki held the first ever Raider R150 Summit at the Davao Del Norte Sports and Tourism Center in Tagum City.

Almost 2, 400 riders (2,397 to be exact) joined the festivities which began early in the morning with a stunt show that entertained the thousands of riders still in the queue to enter the event.

At stake during the day long event were the Best Custom Bike, Best Concept Bike, Best Engine Setup as well as the Media Choice Award for the bikes.  Riders were also part of the action as the Biker Babe, Best Rider and Best Rider Couple were crowned in front of an animated crowd of their peers.

Highlighting the event, Suzuki Philippines raffled off 2 Raider motorcycles to the lucky winners.  The day was not all fun and games though as Suzuki once again renewed its commitment to supporting their riders as Suzuki Philippines’ Monch Bontogon responded to the Rider’s Pledge given by their customers.

Suzuki also followed up on their support of the ABS CBN Lingkod Kapamily Sagip Marawi program via the One Suzuki for Marawi fund drive.  Initially, the One Suzuki for Marawi program donated Php 2.2 Million during the Raider R150 Summit held in World Trade Center in Manila last January 28, 2018.  This time a total of approximately Php 500,000 was added to that during this Raider R150 Summit Mindanao.

Once again Suzuki Philippines established the dominance of the Raider R150, this time, in the South.  The Raider reigns supreme as country’s Underbone King.

Facing a bevy of highly experienced riders the Filipino tandem had their plates full on the tracks but still showcased their determination and valiantly competed against their fellow riders. During their race Masato suffered a slippage during the race which cost him his position but luckily “The Chairman” only had minor injuries. It’s still notable how he locked up the 17th spot as a first timer in this division. Paz meanwhile, improved from his previous finish of 27th by claiming the 23rd spot. The 17-year-old wunderkind pushed himself to the limit and displayed his growth in this racing journey.

The experience for the two proved to be priceless as they return to the Philippines as better and more complete riders. Their improvement will continue as they train for their next international races. Their potential has grown and their racing discipline will be a key factor moving forward. Of course, Yamaha Motor Philippines will be there every step of the way as they climb the international ranks and also continue to cultivate local riders. The race continues for the ultimate goal of having the first ever Filipino MotoGp Rider. – YMPH

Philippines Superbike Championships 2nd leg has proven to be exciting and intense at the same time. More and more fans and enthusiasts are cheering for their favorite rider. Batangas Racing Circuit once again hosted this much awaited event.

Wheeltek-Suzuki Racing Team’s ace rider, Jacq “The Lady” Buncio proved to be the fastest lady on the tracks once again with the Suzuki GSX-R 1000R as her bike for the race. The tandem of Jacq and the bike did not disappoint the crowd and the entire Wheeltek-Suzuki Racing Team.

Jacq bagged back to back top podiums for PSBK National Rookie and Pirelli Superbike Heavyweight Class A Categories. Riding against experienced riders, Jacq did not race like a “Lady” in the races.  She was a great epitome of “Girl Power” in the PSBK series.

With the 3rd leg just around the corner, there is little time to celebrate. Its back to training and practice for Jacq in the next few days to come.

Suzuki is definitely back into the racing spotlight with Jacq winning back to back top podiums for 2 different categories, the Suzuki V-Man Racing team also gave the crowd a great fight. It was a neck and neck battle between Suzuki V-Man racers against the Yamaha racing team. It was a war between Suzuki GSX-R150 and Yamaha R15.

During the hard fought battle, Suzuki V-Man Racers suffered from crashes giving the team a slim chance to bring home the championship. One rider for Suzuki V-Man Racing Team did not lose hope as Djereck Ondillo fought against 3 Yamaha riders until the checkered flag was waved. With Ondillo winning the second spot for the MotoIR.

Congratulations to Wheeltek-Suzuki and Suzuki V-Man Racing Teams for the well deserved wins.

BIG SITE NEWS: Forum Software Change

Finally after almost 2 decades of service, Motorcycle Philippines will be shifting it’s forum software from the old Vbulletin platform to the Xenforo platform.

Vbulletin has been the default forum software for years.  If you were a serious community builder you had to use Vbulletin.  Unfortunately, over the years, Vbulletin has become unreliable and bloated.  I have always had problem with server configuration as well as server errors with this platform.   The headaches have far outweighed the benefits of this platform.  Hence the move to Xenforo.

Xenforo is basically the new and improved Vbulletin.  Sporting most of the features of Vbulletin but with better coding and a better UI experience.

I will be initiating the transfer soon.  Once I begin, expect an announcement since it may take a couple of days to import all the data from our rather sizeable database (7gb+). So expect a bit of downtime for the Forum.

Exciting times for the site and I hope to see better performance as well as a better experience for all the loyal MCP users out there.

Thank you very much!

Yamaha Tour De Rev (Luzon Leg)

Last May 18, 2018, Yamaha Motors Philippines Inc. conducted the 1st leg of of a series of inspiring rides scheduled for the year to let riders experience our country the “Tour De Rev”.   A total of 1000kms around the island of Luzon, sharing the safest touring experience which unite riders on the roads of the Philippines.

Riders from the region gathered at the Yamaha Flagship Shop, Yzone which served as the starting point of the trip. A total of 60 candidate riders qualified and certified fit to participate in this event.

Day 1 VS1 Day – All riders were excited and prepared for the 13-hour trip to Banaue that allowed 150cc to 300cc displacement bikes to feel the full capacity of Yamaha motorcycles. With the help of the ride marshals, the group rode in formation for additional safety and organization. All riders were donning the spiffy VS1 shirts.

MCP was given the chance to use a Yamaha Xmax 300i, bringing more excitement in this trip. A 300cc displacement touring maxi scooter, performing a good handling stability, power deliver and comfortable riding posture.

1st day trip ends in Banaue with a lot of smiles and great conversation among the riders.  Twisted roads, top speed, and the breathtaking views encountered were the most common subjects among the riders. Good camaraderie was built in every moment that happened before the 1st day ended in TAM-AN Hotel in Mt. Banaue.

Day 2 Motoworld day– A cold morning greeted all participants in Mt. Banaue.  Despite the weather riders were ready and started to warm up their Yamaha Motorcycles.   The marshalls gave the day’s briefing as well as giving pointers to the riders about what to expect during the ride down.  The pristine wonder of the Philippines was in full display and a perfect way to start to the day.

Then it was a 12-hour journey to La Union traversing the historic Bessang pass.  The ride eventually ended in Octane Beach resort in San Juan La Union.  The night continued with various activities like Flat Track Races, a Drag Race while Philippine music icon Ely Buendia and the Oktaves Band entertained all the participants as well as the other attendees.

The final day was a mixed experience of see-sawing emotions for the riders. The long ride home could have easily been a cause for exhaustion for some of the riders but the ride pace as well as the excellent job by the marshalls minimized the effect of an otherwise dangerous situation.  Some who resided in Baguio and Pangasinan could have peeled off and head home, but they still finished the whole trip for a memorable milestone. It was a collective celebration for those who started off as strangers and culminated as a group enthralled by passion in a thousand kilometers, and receiving their Certificate of Participation in finishing the 3 Days tour!

The partnership of Petron, VS1, Mototek and Motoworld, made this event more memorable.

The next edition of Tour De Rev will be in the region of Mindanao and for the riders its sure to be Christmas in July 2018.

Thank you Yamaha Motor Philippines Inc. for giving an inspiring and safe journey while experiencing the magnificent riding roads of Northern Luzon.  Looking forward for more stories to tell in the next journey.
