Moving down South in the Province of Batangas, Yamaha Motors Inc. took part in another Community Service program at Natatas National High School in Tanauan City. A yearly program that Yamaha conducts to give back to the community. Hundreds of students received Yamaha backpacks which were very much appreciated.

A short program to welcome Yamaha President Mr. Toru Osugi showcasing their talents in dancing and singing. Mr. Osugi led the ribbon-cutting rites to officially open the newly constructed three (3) cubicle restroom for the kids. Now the students of Natatas National High School can utilize a cleaner and better restroom. Prior to the restroom, Yamaha donated hand wash areas to the same school and helped provide a concrete paved walkway which provided the students a safer and better walkway.

Yamaha also conducted safety riding tips for the students which made them more aware of safety in operating and riding motorcycles. This was concluded with a brief dental seminar for the students. The students also received dental packs from Yamaha.

It was a sight to behold as the students enjoy and admire their new backpacks. Everyone was all smiles and joy as they enjoy the short program and eventually went on their way home.
Congratulations to Yamaha Motors Philippines for a successful and noble endeavor.

Shell Reinforces Commitment to Biking Community with Shell Bike Fair 2018

Statistics from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) show that there are now 10.5 million registered motor vehicles all over the country. Their growing number may be attributed to these two-wheeled vehicles being increasingly considered as a more practical and convenient mode of transport.

To thank the community of riders for their continued trust and support, Pilipinas Shell hosted the Shell Bike Fair 2018 in Baguio City last July 14. Now on its fourth year, the event has become an annual gathering of motorcycle riders, bike enthusiasts, and bike club members in a full day of exciting activities.

“The Shell Bike Fair is our way of solidifying our commitment of being the Filipino biker’s reliable partner on the road,” Steve Quila, Pilipinas Shell Vice President for Commercial Lubricants, said.

The first leg of the Shell Bike Fair 2018 was held in Baguio City as the city remains to be one of the most famous biker destinations because of its cool breeze awesome sights and bike-friendly roads. The festivities took place at the CAP-John Hay Trade & Cultural Center, where various bike clubs were recognized for their positive contributions to the community. The participants also enjoyed special offers, booth activities, and riveting performances by Rico Blanco and other local bands, and celebrity guests Drew Arellano, Roxanne Barcelo and Daiana Menezes. Five lucky attendees each brought home one of these scooters and motorcycles that were raffled off as major prizes: one unit of Honda CBR150, two units of Yamaha Mio i125, and two units of Suzuki Raider J115.

Made possible by Shell Advance motorcycle & scooter oils and Shell V-Power premium fuels, two brands that are reliable companions on the road. Shell Advance allows for a smoother ride by providing complete engine protection, while the improved Shell V-Power is designed to deliver both performance and efficiency. These offerings are born out of Shell’s groundbreaking technology in developing smarter products, which are designed to give riders the protection, power and efficiency that they need.

“For over 100 years, Shell has been there to support the evolving needs of Filipino motorists. We recognize the everyday courage of our bikers and Shell Bike Fair is one of the ways we can celebrate their journeys” said Anthony Lawrence Yam, Pilipinas Shell Vice President for Retail.

As bikers go on their journey facing various challenges, Shell commits to being their dependable road companion, providing products and services that best fit their needs. Shell is a global leader in power and energy and is working to meet the increasing energy demand and supply challenges by delivering smarter products and cleaner energy. The company’s advocacy for energy efficiency has inspired programs for motorists that promote driver education and smarter use of energy.

Yamaha Tour de Rev Mindanao Participants pose with Mt. Apo

Yamaha Motor Philippines continues it’s Tour de Rev series as it traveled to the island of Mindanao last July 27 to 29, 2018. 50 riders, screened and selected based on rider skill and experience, were given the chance to participate in this epic experience.

Starting in Revzone, Davao City, the riders made their way around the beautiful island of Mindanao. Travelling almost 1,300 kilometers the route took them through some of the most challenging and scenic routes we have ever seen. Mindanao is truly a rider’s paradise. Long stretches of well paved roads that go on forever, mountain and coastal twisties that will satisfy your inner racer, and of course the friendly people that you meet along the way, always ready to help and always ready with a smile.

The natural beauty of Mindanao was in full display as the riders visited different attractions during the trip.  The Philippine’s highest mountain, Mt. Apo greeted the riders during the first day as they had their breakfast at Dhen Yho’s Place in Kapatagan, Davao del Sur.   Measuring 9,692 feet, Mt. Apo is an imposing figure that dominates the landscape.  The next stop, on the second day of the tour, was the breathtaking Hinatuan Enchanted River in Surigao del Sur.  A true wonder of nature, the turquoise waters of the main pool is truly an enchanting sight to behold.  The main pool, which reaches a depth of approximately 100 feet, has been closed off to the public since 2017 in an effort to protect and preserve both the place and the fish that frequent the waters.  Visitors are still welcome to swim in the adjoining river.  The last place visited by the participants was the Tagbibinti Falls located in Maragusan, Compostela Valley, 60 kilometers from Mati, Davao del Sur.  Measuring approximately 700 feet, Tagbibinti Falls is composed of 7 different water falls.  Unfortunately the media team weren’t able to join this leg and headed straight to Davao City from Mati to prepare for the participants arrival.

As evening began to set in during the third day of the ride, the participants arrived, en masse.  All the finishers were awarded  medals and certificates as they rode up to the stage at the last stop to officially end their journey.

MotorHub Davao and Yamaha Motor Philippines closed off the evening with a small celebration to show their appreciation to all the participants as well as to everyone who made this Mindanao Leg of Yamaha’s Tour de Rev an amazing success.

We can’t wait for the next leg which will be happening soon.

Challenging Weather Pushes Riders to the Limit in Yamaha Grand Prix 9

July 29, 2018SM CITY BALIWAG

The last qualifying leg for the Yamaha Grand Prix was unpredictable like the weather in the Philippines. As the window starts to close for most riders vying for a spot in the Championship race. The qualifying time trials were done in the scorching heat of the sun that tested the conditioning of the riders. Then, as if a flip was switched, the rain bombarded the racetrack. This resulted to multiple slippage and tumbles to some of the competitors. The wet surfaces became was an obstacle that everyone had to overcome.

The 150 UB Open Championship seemed to be well in control by Masato Fernando who was the runaway winner in the past few legs. Powered by the Sniper 150, the story was more of the same in the beginning with Masato dominating the first Heat. That all changed in the 2nd heat when he had a rare stumble that saw him finish out of the podium in a very long time. That cost him the overall win for the Luzon leg which went to Bornok Mangosong. The known motocross champion is proving himself to be a tough mark in the circuit and will be a strong contender in the Finals.

The Female cast was finally completed but the ladies got the bulk of the unfavorable weather as their entire race was hammered by the downpour unlike their male counterparts. It was an astonishing display of the relentlessness and willpower of the Filipina. Erica Ondillo will led the way for the all-female team of Luzon, all of whom displayed superb abilities on their Mio Sporty.

The Dealer Cup race had its share of bragging rights between its competitors and this was another opportunity for them to get an advantage over the other. Riding the record breaking Yamaha Sight, the riders were gunning for their own spot in the record books. Ernie Daguio Jr. elevated DHCI CycleHaus Racing Team in the Expert Category while Bornok Mangosong sealed a double podium finish by bagging the Intermediate Category win for Rhean Marketing Racing.

Next stop? The Finals in Palawan Racing Circuit on September 9 for all the marbles.

The Sunday morning air was filled with roaring engine sounds and smell of burning rubber and gasoline as the racers from all over the country show up for the much awaited finals of the Yamaha Grand Prix Season 9 held at Palawan International Circuit in the beautiful Puerto Prinsesa, Palawan.
Surrounded by a peaceful neighborhood and world-class beaches, Puerto Prinsesa played host for the action-packed Yamaha Grand Prix Season 9. The locals perched on the fences to have a glimpse of the action while the viewing deck was filled with hundreds of spectators.

Qualifying rounds were done in the morning as the racers fought for their race positions on the grid. There were two (2) new categories that took place. The first one was the “Dealers Cup” wherein different motorcycle dealers formed their racing teams to compete in the Yamaha Grand Prix 9. The Intermediate category of the Dealers Cup was dominated by John Paul Lantape of Motorace. The Expert Category was bagged by Ephraim Onahon of Rhean Marketing.

We also witnessed heart-stopping race between the ladies of Luzon, Vizayas and Mindanao plus the Wild Cards in the All Ladies Category. The race was dominated by Justine Bethany “The Tarsier” Tolentino. Her height may be deceiving as she is a small young lady. She once again proved to everyone that height does not matter in racing.

The One Make Race featuring the Sniper 150 Championship goes to Vrei Ar Suba. Then the race of all races in the YGP9 was the hard fought battle in the 150 Open Underbone Category. The action never stopped between the returning Masato “The Chairman” Fernando and John Emerson “J.E.” Inguito while McKinley Kyle “The Wonderboy” Paz comes in third. Inguito crosses the checkered flag first with Masato coming in at a close second place.

As the season comes to a close, it was Masato “The Chairman” Fernando who took home the YGP 150 Open Underbone overall championship with 188 points, followed by John Emerson Inguito with 170.5 points and Mckinley Kyle “The Wonderboy” Paz on the third spot with 131 points.
Apart from the bragging rights, trophies and cash prizes, the top winners in this YGP9 will be representing the Philippines in the international races bearing the banner of Yamaha proudly.

Definitely a lot of things and excitement to watch out for in the next Yamaha Grand Prix.

Kicking off at Baguio City last July, Shell Bike Fair wraps up this year’s festivities with a bang this Saturday, September 22 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City.

The biker community in the Philippines has grown exponentially as more and more riders consider two-wheeled vehicles as a more practical and convenient mode of transport. Based on the latest statistics from LTO, the number of registered motor vehicles in the Philippines has grown to 10.5 million as of 2017.

Pilipinas Shell, a reliable partner of the biker community, in making their rides better celebrates the courage and resilience of bikers as they take their daily journeys despite the difficulties that they face in weaving through obstacles on the road.

“This day is really to express how grateful we are for the support that we received from the Filipino biking community,” said Shell V-Power Brand Manager, Mark Malabanan. “As our theme says, together we ride stronger. We are honored to be chosen as their partner on the road, being there with them through the years. And, as we have for more than a hundred years, Pilipinas Shell continues to strive to make life’s journeys better for all motorists.”

Participants were treated to special offers from Shell and event sponsors as well as exciting games and booth activities. Performances by Rico Blanco, Rocksteddy, and other local acts also rocked the event alongside celebrity guests Daiana Menezes, Yam Concepcion, and Phoebe Walker.

Five winners each brought home scooters or motorcycles that were raffled off as major prizes: Honda CBR150, Yamaha Mio i125, and Suzuki Raider J115. The biker community was also given the chance to express their creativity through the Modified Bike and Helmet Design contests.

The highlight of the day was the announcement of the big winner of Shell Outriders: the nationwide search for the best bike club.

A total of 17 finalists representing Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao were picked out through careful screening of hundreds of entries received over the past two months. The chosen clubs set up creative displays at the convention hall to showcase their love for riding and how they exhibit personal and social courage. The champions received a cash prize of PHP 100,000.00 and fuel vouchers worth PHP 50,000.00.

“We put up this search because we want to recognize bike clubs who exemplify the brand values and ideals of Shell. We were amazed to see how passionate they are for what they do and how they push to continue to outride anything.” said Shell Advance Brand Manager, Lorrie Ramirez.

This year’s Shell Bike Fair was made possible by Shell Advance and Shell V-Power, led by their passion to be the most reliable partners on the road. As a global leader in power and energy, Shell continually works to deliver smarter products and cleaner energy solutions.

2018 Metzeler Brand Experience

Last October 24 and 25, 2018 Metzeler invited select members of media to participate in their 1st ever Metzeler Brand Experience.   On the agenda was for us to experience different models of the Metzeler tires on different motorcycles.  Different riding styles, riding situations call for different tires and this was an excellent experiment in feeling the difference between the different models of the Metzeler tires.

Motorcycles and Metzeler tires used during the tour:

MOTORCYCLE TIRE MODEL
BMW GS1200 Karoo 3
BMW GS1200 Tourance Next
BMW R Nine T Roadtec 01
BMW Urban GS Karoo 3
Suzuki GSX S 750 Sportec M7 RR
Suzuki SV650 Roadtec Z8 Interact
Suzuki Burgman 400 Feel Free
Yamaha Tenere Tourance
Yamaha MT07 Sportec M5 Interact
Yamaha MT09 Sportec M7 RR
KTM 690 Enduro Enduro 3 Sahara

The roads leading to Costa Pacifica in Baler, Aurora served as the testing ground for the riders as well as the Metzeler tires.  Long stretches of highway tested the high-speed capability of the tires and the exciting Baler twisities had a some of us thankful for the excellent grip of the tires while the short and picturesque route leading into Poblacion and eventually Costa Pacifica provided the perfect finish to a full day of riding.

After a well-deserved rest, the participants also got additional knowledge about the tires that they used in the tour.  Representatives from Metzeler Asia shared their expertise about Metzeler tires and patiently answered the avalanche of questions we had for them.   All that was left to do was to enjoy the waters of the Pacific Ocean and prepare for the ride back home.  The Metzeler Brand Experience is not just about the destination, it is about the shared stories created out of the journey, it perfectly embodied the concept of “Wanderfeel”

It’s apparent that Metzeler is poised to take over the market with their wide selection of tires, specifically for the larger displacement motorcycles.  It will be interesting what tire innovations they will be revealing for us in the future.

The tour was made possible with the support of the event’s official partners: Motoworld Philippines, BMW Motorrad, Yamaha Motor Philippines, Suzuki Philippines, KTM Philippines and Imprint Customs.

Metzeler tires are available in Motoworld, MotoMarket, MotoStyle stores and authorized dealers nationwide.

This 3-part epic adventure started in Luzon (May 18-20, 2018), then Mindanao (July 28-30, 2018) and finally, the conquest of Visayas to complete the whole nationwide tour.

Yamaha Club (Y-Club) initiated the process of accepting and screening applicants from the current members. As agreed, only motorcycles and scooters with 150cc or higher displacement will be allowed to be part of the 3-day tour. Although the tour will be in Visayas, participants from Luzon and Mindanao are still welcome to apply for a slot. After the strict screening process had been done, it was finally time to gather all selected participants for the crucial riders briefing. The details of the route were discussed while everyone was all ears and closely paying attention. Rider’s kits were distributed to the riders right after the briefing. The kit includes reflectorized vest, hydration bag and event shirts from Yamaha, VS1 and Racing Boy. Final checks and reminders were done before sending the riders off to rest.

Day 1 begins as the sun is still nowhere to be found as the participants were asked to assemble at 2:00am at Des Marketing in Calbayog City, Samar. The riders arrived with much excitement traced on their faces. Everyone is already in full riding gear and constantly checking on their bikes to make sure that everything is in order. A last set of reminders were given to the participants and marshals before they heard the magic words, “Gear up!”

The entire team took off at 3:00am heading on to their mandatory gas stop over at Petron Catarman. From Catarman, it will be a 50 kilometer ride on to the next stop at Petron Laoang wherein everyone is required to gas up again. The next gas stop will be a grueling 135 kilometers away. From Petron Laoang, the team headed on to Rawis seaport where several wooden pump boats await. These boats were customized to serve as the local version of the RORO ferries. After the bikes were loaded on to several boats, the 2 hour sea crossing to Pangpang seaport began. From Pangpang seaport the entire team headed off to Binogawan Beach Resort for the day’s lunch. With a brief rest and picture taking after lunch, two more gas stops at Petron Dolores and Petron Hernani were part of the itinerary for day 1 before finally settling in at Gonzaga Guest House. Day 1 of the tour totaled 468 kilometers which makes one third of the tour.

Day 2 begins at 3:00am with the riders preparing for another day of riding. After breakfast at Gonzaga Guest House, the team pushed on to Petron Basey for another gas stop before taking on a 129 kilometer ride to Petron San Isidro wherein the team had a compulsory gas up as the group is facing another 110 kilometer ride to the next gas stop at Petron Linao. After everyone’s gas tank is filled, it was time to fill everyone’s stomach with sumptuous seafood galore at Mimay’s Seafood House. The team really needed to fill in before they take on a 99 kilometer ride to Petron Bato wherein everyone was required to do another gas up before heading on to Kuting Reef Resort to end the second day of the tour.

In Kuting Reef Resort, the team enjoyed the beach and the infinity pool to relieve the exhaustion. Dinner is served and everyone ate to their limits before calling it a day. With 479 kilometers for day 2, it proved to be the longest ride for the entire team.

With much consideration for the team to have enough of their much needed rest, the assembly time for the third and final day of the tour was moved to 7:00am from the original 4:00am. The team enjoyed a buffet breakfast at Kuting Reef Resort before taking on day 3 of the tour.

From Kuting Reef, the team headed off to Petron Sogod for a mandatory gas up before going to the historic MacArthur Landing Memorial Park. After the team enjoyed the scene and did the group photo op, the group went on to Filchai Grill Family KTV for their lunch.

As the team moved on, a stop was made at the Agas-Agas Bridge which is the tallest bridge in the country. After appreciating the tallest bridge, its time once again to pass by the longest bridge in the Philippines, San Juanico Bridge. A final gas stop was made at Petron Buray before heading off to Super Metro Calbayog to end the tour. At Naijan Park, each rider had a chance to brag on to everyone watching as they were awarded a medal and a certificate as confirmation that they completed the Yamaha Tour de Rev Samar-Leyte Loop on stage on their motorcycles. It was their moment to shine individually.

After the awarding, everyone had dinner and enjoyed the entertainment from a local acoustic band and an all-female dance group. Some items were also given away from Racing Boy during the mini raffle and games. And to officially declare the Tour de Rev over, a beer toast headed by John Hansel Leyva, head of Yamaha Customer Relations and in-charge of Y-Club members.

The tour is over but not for everyone, as some of the riders still need to ride back home. With a mix of riders coming from different part of Visayas and Luzon, ride is not over yet. Despite the fact that they are still facing several hundreds of kilometers to head back home, everyone was all smiles and is giving high-fives and send-off wishes of safety to everyone.

Now that the third and final installment of Yamaha Tour de Rev is completed with the Samar-Leyte Loop as the final stage, everyone is in anticipation to be part of next year’s Yamaha Tour de Rev. Yamaha reaches out to their dear patrons through Y-Club Membership and what a way to give back to their members. Riders need to ride and that is what Yamaha gave them in return. Truly to this team of Tour de Rev participants, only Yamaha revs their hearts.

I Finally Found The One

A motorcycle rider’s life is about finding the right one. The right type of motorcycle to serve its purpose, right set of safety gear, and the right value for money. Be it for business or leisure, a prospect will definitely aim to get the perfect match.

Just like Mac, he rides a scooter everyday as his means to travel to and from work. And of course occasional weekend rides with some of his friends. Mac mentioned that he prepared a lot and thought about buying a motorcycle a hundred times before coming up to the decision of buying one. There were a lot of considerations to had to look at, like his budget. He works as a government employee and earns just enough for his needs. Another thing he looked at was the traffic situation from he was coming from. It seems that heavy traffic congestion is everywhere so he needed an agile and easy to handle bike. With these things in his mind, he decided to get himself a scooter. Small, agile and easy to handle. Everything that he was looking for is in this bike. This routine was carried over in choosing the right set of safety gear to acquire.

It goes without saying, Mac is meticulous and only wants what is best for him. He wants to get the most of what he paid for. His keen attention to even the smallest details did good for him. He to get the best, he needs to try different options. During regular maintenance of his scooter, it is always necessary for him to have his oil changed. He would ask the mechanics in the shop which they think would be the best scooter oil? Some would say he should use the manufacturer’s oil and so he did. It was quite affordable compared to other brands but it did not meet his standards when it comes to performance. It gets quite dirty after several hundreds of kilometers. The usual preventive maintenance became even more frequent because he needed to change hos scooter oil more often than before.

Disappointed, Mac asked his friends which scooter oil do they use for their bikes. He would get a lot of different answers and thought of which one to try. He went for the some of the leading brands in the market. Because of its marketability, it was more expensive than the rest of the scooter oils he had tried before. It performed well though. But because he was on a strict budget, he couldn’t afford additional cost on his expenses.

One of the shop mechanics then introduced the Caltex Havoline Supermatic 4T SAE 10W-40 to him and told him to try it out. And so he did again. The price is competitive but not as expensive as the leading brands. Mac also noticed the improved engine performance of his scooter. It can withstand long distance rides for hours without any problems or signs of overheating. He rode a little over 1000 kilometers before having his oil changed. Mac was surprised that the oil still looks clean even after 1000 kilometers.

Three items checked from his list of expectations, price, performance and quality. There is no more reason to look for other brands. Mac chose to stay with Caltex Havoline Supermatic 4T SAE 10W-40 for his trusted scooter. A perfectly matched partnership as Mac finally found the right one. (Sponsored Content)

The raffled off units were, Yamaha Mio 125, Yamaha NMAX 155 and Yamaha Mio Aerox 155. But the giving away of motorcycles did not stop there, Yamaha raffled off a Yamaha R15 to one lucky rider.
