MT Helmets have been in the country for a couple of years now. They’ve been keeping a low profile and have been releasing quality, low cost helmets into the market. I first saw their jet line of helmets in their offices several years back and was really impressed by the build quality and designs of their helmets. Fast forward to early this year when I was asked to do a review of their Synchrony Dual Sport line of helmets. I was, and still am, an owner of the original Synchrony Off Road helmet and have been using it extensively during my off-road rides so I was a bit pumped to do a review on the Dual Sport model.
Both Synchrony and Synchrony Duo share the same shell and basic design but the Duo has the face shield and the integrated sun visor which makes it perfect for both off road and high speed on road use. A true dual sport helmet.
Of course, having the dual shields does come with a bit of a weight penalty. My original Synchrony had a listed weight of 1,450 gms (XL) and the Synchrony Dual Sport (XXL) came in at 1,650 gms. Weight would be typical of a Polycarbonate shell and of course be way heavier than the carbon fiber or the multi compound shells available on the higher end of the price spectrum. Not being new to heavier helmets, I found the Synchrony Dual Sport held the weight low in its shell hiding its weight well. I’ve worn the Synchrony Duo on long, arduous trail rides and it held up well in even the toughest spots.
The visors are adequate for the job. There is very minimal warping at the edges of the main shield but it does not affect the line of sight of the rider, it only becomes apparent at the very edge of the peripheral vision. Visor opening is almost effortless. You can crack the shield slightly open for more ventilation. Pushing it up to halfway there is a stop that holds the visor there and another one at around ¾ of the way. Finally, the visor locks at the top of the sun visor. The secondary sun visor can be actuated using a sliding mechanism at the left side of the helmet which works well. I find the sun visor a tad too short but that is my personal preference, since I often ride just using the sun visor with the main visor locked open.
Helmet ventilation, as with all dual sport/off-road helmets is very good. Even with the main visors closed the Synchrony Dual Sport supplies enough inside the shell to cool you. And the helmet is surprisingly quiet. At high speed, there is some tolerable wind noise but riding at sensible speeds lowers the noise considerably. Very, very impressive. But should you still sweat it out don’t worry the liners are removable and washable.
Sizing is perfect for the Philippine market. I’ve had to order a special XXL size to be able to squeeze in. But given that my head size is not typical of the market, it shouldn’t be a problem for prospective buyers. I was able to fit my Sena 20s bracket and speakers, with a bit of modification, into the shell without any problem so any other communication device should fit.
Build quality is top notch, much like the original Jet helmets I saw years back. Paint quality is Decals and markings were subdued on my white Synchrony Duo. Overall an extremely capable helmet that lives up to its Dual Sport name and design.
The Synchrony Dual Sport comes in different colors and designs Black/Titanium Grey, Black/Gold, Grey/Silver, Grey/Black/Red, Green/Black and is priced at Php 4,495.00.
MT Helmets are available at Lazada.
